Child Sponsorship

Sponsorship Overview

Becoming A Sponsor: What You Need To Know
Sponsors are one of the most important parts of our program because they provide the funds to bring these at-risk children to the United States. Sponsors are also expected to take an active role in recruiting families to host children or interpreters, and encouraging volunteers to participate on support committees.

Sponsors pay a flat rate to provide:

  • Transportation costs for the children hosted, including transportation to and from the airport of departure, overseas airfare, passport and visa costs
  • A portion of the stipend paid each interpreter
  • Costs of insurance (accidental policy only)

They may be called upon by their host families to help provide incidental expenses, such as any medical testing not donated, and humanitarian aid (medical supplies, clothing, etc.) to be sent back with the children for distribution in their home country.

What Can Sponsoring Churches Expect From Solace For The Children?
Solace For The Children will:

  • Coordinate hosts' requests for children and locate corresponding children in Afghanistan
  • Provide orientation for host families
  • Arrange transportation to and from the airport of entry and departure for all sponsored children
  • Arrange for interpreters
  • Facilitate timely communication of the project with host families and sponsoring churches
  • Ensure each child is examined by a dentist, physician, and eye doctor and that all necessary tests are completed
  • Organize and facilitate effective local committees as needed
  • Collect all monies from individuals, churches, etc., and ensure timely transfer of funds

When Do I Need To Commit To Being A Sponsor?
Organizations must commit to sponsorship by March 27, 2010.
